I am a Cognitive Scientist who studies expertise and human-computer interaction. As a Fulbright scholar, I studied interface switching in Arabic-English bilinguals at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. My work largely centers around how gaming can inform learning and she uses the video game Tetris as an experimental platform. I am also an avid Tetris player who competes regularly in tournaments (against much younger folks!). After returning from Egypt, I turned my appreciation for how learning can be augmented and became a Techprenuer starting her own technology company in which I am now working diligently to produce SaaS. I am also a founding member of Artificial Intelligence for Africa (AI4A) and spoke before the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, virtually this past May. I am also a bird lover and part of my enthusiasm is expressed in a local television series: “Bird to the Wise,” where I interview many people about all things birds, from Falconry to raising chickens, rescuing Parrots, and much more.
I taught a class in Egypt about the science of expertise and helped her students set and attain outstanding goals such as completing one leg of a triathlon, doing 4-minute planks, learning to play an instrument, speaking a new language, and losing 25 pounds. My amazement in their progress led me to write FIND YOUR CARROT to help people organize their lives and their hearts to be true to themselves. With this book, I hope to bring the game changer to help people thrive and flourish.
