PICK THE DATE
This might be the most important aspect of all. Constraints often seem like a burden but they are in fact a blessing. Give someone or a group of people unlimited time and resources and there’s a good chance they produce nothing. It’s when you put a cap on things that people tend to step up create the most magical of products. Think David versus Goliath. Most people will have time and money constraints but you can use these to your advantage. Your homegrown efforts are a great start because this is where you can really pare down and get to the nitty gritty of what you’re trying to produce. You only have a short window of opportunity to work with and a limited budget. So, what can you accomplish relatively quickly? What’s your Golden Time Zone? It should be long enough to produce something tangible but short enough to keep you hungry and motivated.
PINPOINT YOUR TARGET
Whatever your target, your focus in achieving it should be laser-like. Imagine you’re a super hero with red lasers pouring out of your eyes and burning a hole in the target in front of you. Literally imagine your target like a small, circle, like a bullseye. This speaks to how you set goals; the more narrowly you define your target the better your chance to nail it.
PLAN YOUR PATH (LOOSELY)
What are the building blocks of your goal?
PAY WHAT’S DUE
You’re not going to get out of the work that needs to be done to get where you are going. Ultimately, that is what’s fair; you wouldn’t want someone coming along and getting something super easily for free that you worked really hard for. You have to give your gift what it needs to flourish and you don’t get to dictate the terms.
PICTURE
Picturing what you want is necessary. I’m sure this isn’t news to you, by now we’ve all heard that you need to visualize what you want. That’s absolutely right but I’m here to take it a step further; try posting an image of what it is you want some place highly visible. You don’t need words or an explanation, just cut a picture out of a magazine and tape it up somewhere. Look at it and imaging the feeling you’ll have when you get it.
PREPARE
Last but not lease is the 6th P, an often over looked part of the process. Planning, visualizing, picking dates and so forth aren’t going to help you if once your reward has arrived you don’t have room for it and are not ready. Preparing for what you expect to receive is crucial because it signals the universe that you’re serious about what you’re doing. It also aligns your current habits with your future goals. For example, let’s suppose your goal is to study abroad in Italy next year. Well of course should be putting in applications and deciding on your plan of study. But also, start studying Italian so you can speak it when you get there. Check out the climate and start planning what you’ll where while you’re there. You might even start packing! Put one piece of clothing or outfit in your suitcase each month and by the time you’re ready to go you’ll have a dozen items ready to go.
